Year 5

Welcome to Year 5

Fantastic performances from everyone in the play, An Inspector Calls.  Well done!  parents, we hope you enjoyed watching it as much as we did performing it.

We're on the last lap through to the holidays now.  It's been a great year, Year 5.  I've thoroughly enjoyed teaching you all and will miss you next year.  Thank you, parents, for your support this year.  Many thanks also for your presents and cards.  They are very much appreciated.  we're all feeling very tired so I hope you all have a great holiday and a good rest.

As you can see, it's been an exhausting end of term!

Don't forget: Monday 10th July Computer Science day at Buckingham School, 9.30 -2.30

Tuesday 11th July Year 5&6 Games Day at Buckingham School

Packed lunches needed both days.

Congratulations to Robyn for winning 3rd prize in the children's section of the RHS photographic competition.  What a fantastic achievement!  Here is her stunning photo, entitled 'Are There Any Unicorns Hiding Here?'

Her photo is currently on display at the Hampton Court Flower Show.

We had a great inter-house football tournament today.  Thank you to everyone who took part and played with such sportsmanship.  Thank you also to Adam and Kieran who organised the event for us and provided all the equipment.

Our play, An Inspector Calls, is coming along really well.  Today we had a huge boost when Alice, who is studying drama at university, came in to give us some tips and make some very useful suggestions about our production.

Thank you to Alice.

Remember everything she told you for an amazing performance, and keep learning those songs!!

Drama workshop today (7th June).

We all had a great time and learnt a lot about explorers and their travels around the world.  A big thank you to the PTFA for paying for the workshops for us.

Thank you to all family members who took part in our Daily Mile.  We have added your distances to our total and are now on our way to Athens!

Watch out for another date coming soon when you can join us again!!!

Science Fair at the RLS

What an amazing time we had at the Y5 Science Fair.  Well done to you all for your interest and enthusiasm.  Please see the information posters we made the next day in school with all the details of the materials we used and the experiments we did.  We particularly enjoyed the exploding balloons at the end!!!

Parents, please join us if you can for our Daily Mile on Friday 26th May at 8.45

You don't have to run! Your distance will be added to our ongoing total to see how far around the world we can run.  We're currently heading towards Budapest!

What a wet trip to Stowe!  Well done, everyone for not complaining about the rain, which didn't stop all day. A big thank you to Sophie for organising our day and planning all the activities, especially as she had to adapt her plans because of the rain.

Our two trips coming up are:

Orienteering and map skills day at Stowe with Year 6  - Wednesday 17th May.

You do not need to wear school uniform, but should wear clothes for outdoor activities, including comfortable shoes for walking there and back.  You will also need a packed lunch and drinks for the day.

Science Day at the Royal Latin - Thursday 25th May

You will need a packed lunch as we will be having an early lunch in school before leaving for the Royal Latin , and also an old T-shirt to wear over your uniform for messy activities.  Remember, we will arrive back at school at 3.45 so you will need to be collected then (unless you are going into Cabin Club or Sport4All club)

We had an interesting first day back with a visit from two MK Dons players, Giorgio Rasulo and Ben Tilney.  Well done for asking them such interesting questions.

Fame at last!!!  We were delighted to see that our photograph with the MK Dons players was featured in the match day programme last Saturday.

Don't forget that we will be starting the Daily Mile on Thursday this week, so you will need to have your trainers here every day.

Remember: homework will be given at the beginning and at the end of the week and spellings and tables to practise at home will be given weekly.
PE will be on Thursdays and Fridays so be sure to have your PE kit in school.

Homework for 28th June: Finding the area of shapes and comparing them.  Remember, you may have to find some missing lengths first.
June - ongoing homework: Learning words for the play, and song words
Homework for Wednesday 24th May - try out the 'Four Colour Theorem' maths puzzle.  Remember - choose four colours only.  No sections should be coloured in the same colour as any nextdoor sections (corners touching in the same colour are ok).  Take care!
