Homework

Home learning is an important part of the primary curriculum, and there are benefits to be gained from study at home.  At St James and St John School we teach the full National Curriculum during the school day, but appreciate that home learning can enhance and enrich the curriculum.

This term we are trialling a new system for homework. Homework will take the form of a Dip and Do style grid to choose from. The tasks will be linked to  Children linked to a curriculum area for that term.

Children should be reading either independently or with an adult daily. All reading should be recorded in the pupil's reading records.

By the end of Year 4, the pupils will be expected to know their times tables both as multiplication and division up to 12x12. As such it is so important that these are practiced daily at home.

Pupils will be given spellings to learn on a Friday to be tested the following Friday. Spellings are a mixture of Year 3/4 curriculum spellings, Top 100 High Frequency Words, Next 200 High Frequency Words and topic vocabulary.
