Reading in Year 1

In Year 1, the children have two reading books which are both compatible and part of the Oxford Reading Tree Scheme. An adult will listen to your child read one set of books in school. The second reading book is their daily reading book which they take home to read. This can be changed  by the children independently in the classroom each day (usually first thing in the morning.) They are encouraged to do this to develop their independence. Please  may we ask you to remember to record any home reading in your child's reading record each time your child has read, also if you wish to put a note in there to advise if you don't feel your child is ready to change their book yet.  Please may we ask for your support in trying to listen to child read, daily if possible, even if it's only for a short time.

The children will be listened to read in school either individually, within their English Read Write Inc lessons, through Guided Reading or within other curriculum areas.
